Vitamin C is an effective and healthy nutrient that our bodies need. It is powerful antioxidant and is also called L-ascorbic Acid.

Many fruits and vegetables contain the vitamin. It helps to improve the immune system, avoid eye diseases, and lower the risk of chronic diseases.

But the human body cannot produce vitamin C like many other mammals. Our body also can't store it because it is water-soluble. This means that in order to maintain vitamin C levels in the body, people must follow a vitamin C rich diet and/or take a supplement high in the nutrient.

The daily recommended amount for adults is 65-90 mg and maximum amount is 2000 mg per day.

In the 17th century, a man in the British army was nicknamed "Limsay" because he used to drink excessive amounts of lime juice. The reason why? Because many soldiers were suffering from a disease called Scurvy (vitamin C deficiency).

The symptoms of scurvy include bleeding gums and black and blue scars on the gums.ย  They started drinking excessive amounts of lime juice, which helped them cope with scurvy because limes are so high in the vitamin.

But remember, taking more than 2000mg a day can cause stomach problems and diarrhea.
