Raisins – Ingredient Spotlight
Scientific Name: Vitis Vinifera
Alternative Names: Dry Grapes, Kismis
We use this ingredient in two of our products – the 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, and Acid Reflux.
Raisins (along with sultanas and currants) are a great source of antioxidants, including polyphenols. Antioxidants help protect our cells from damage from free radicals. It’s the 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬.
For acid reflux, raisins contain many beneficial minerals, eg 𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫, 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦. These are alkaline on the pH scale and help balance acidity levels in the stomach.
Furthermore, they have antibacterial properties also that can help lower the risk of fever and kill the bacteria. So, just a few a day can help prevent colds and infection.
Raisins are 𝐟𝐚𝐭-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐥-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐞 (~4g/100g).
The only downside is that they are high in sugar So, make sure to only 𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
